COMMON COLD

Self-limited viral (rhino, and corona viruses) infection lasting about a week, and ch racterised by sneezing, nasal obstruction, nasal block and discharge, body pains, cough, and sore throat.

1. Diagnosis usually clinical, as viral studies are difficult and impractical.

Prognosis: Bacterial infections of paranasal sinuses and middle ears can occur as complications, but generally recovery is the rule.
